There is so much to do and see in this historic and beautiful town that this is just a small glimpse of what it has to offer. Fougeres was built on the back of the leather and shoe trade. Its magnificent chateau dating back to 1000AD offers guided tours and houses a museum. During certain times of the year there are art and music festivals hosted in the chateau grounds. The upper town offers boutique shopping and a large selection of cafes, bars and restaurants. After walking back down to the chateau why not enjoy a coffee or beer at one of the terrace cafes. During the allied landings Fougeres was heavily bombed by the allies in an attempt to destroy the rail supply routes. This worked well as the railway was never rebuilt. Despite our numerous visits to the town we never get bored of what it has to offer and discover something new every time. On the outskirts of the town there are several supermarkets including Carrefour (our favourite), Lidl, Aldi & many others. The tourist information site for Fougeres is .....http://www.ot-fougeres.fr/accueil
